The weekend of 14th/15th January saw COSSS swimmers competing at the City of Derby Level 1 Open Meet held at Ponds Forge. This year there was a very large entry which resulted in the meet being oversubscribed - the organisers had to reject half of the entries they received. As a consequence the standard was extremely high, with many past and potential Olympians swimming and many national medallists competing in the younger age groups. To get into the top 10 or a final was a significant achievement, particularly as swimmers competed in two-year age bands.
In total, swimmers from over 60 clubs competed and at the end of the weekend City of Sheffield finished 5th in the club competition, despite the predominance of the COSSS Elite Squad swimming elsewhere. In addition to the impressive number of top 10 finishes listed below, Blake Bennett (13) and Cian Senior (13) deserve a mention as they finished 1st and 2nd in the all-rounders' BAGCAT competition.
