This site is now the home of our Gala Results and article archives.

We launched a new website in early 2022.  Take a look here.

Since Christmas a plan has been put in place to make Masters more competitive and increase the amount of competitions we do. This has meant a lot of harder sessions and a fantastic job from coach Wendy incorporating a competition training plan in an already tightly packed group. With results like this weekend’s, this plan is starting to pay off. Tom saved the best of his swims for last with a fantastic new Personal Best and Gold over the 400 IM. Harriet and Ryan both earning the rewards of their sprint focused Friday night sessions with a silver in the 50 and 100 Freestyle respectively. Jonathan was braving the 400 freestyle for the first time in over 30 years, aiming to get points for the Decathlon competition and was rewarded with a Gold medal. The Decathlon competition takes place over the whole year with swimmers having to have swim in 10 different events earing points based on their age along the way. It is a great way to compete across the different ages and this year City of Sheffield are having an internal competition of this kind.

Wendy showed she is tougher than the famous Blackpool rock by grabbing a silver and a gold in two gruelling events for the 800 Freestyle and the 400 IM. A special thanks to Wendy who also coaches the Masters Squad for her continued effort and support to all Team Steel Masters swimmers, it is fantastic to have someone who cares so deeply about masters Swimming on Poolside. The next meet on our calendar is the Maltby Team Gala which is sure to be an absolute cracker with hopefully a lot of new additions racing for Team Steel as we compete as defending Champions.
