March Madness Report

Swimmers were competing in the 50m and 100m Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly, making it a competition with a very quick turnaround. At this point in the season this is a great way to build up some competition endurance which will be important when competing in the summer months after a long season. Demonstrating the success of maintaining high end race skills in back to back races was Holly Steade who powered to a silver medal in the 50 Backstroke and then in the next event managed to do one better and grab the gold in the 100 Breaststroke. Hamza Al-mas is quickly proving his fly skills with a with a fantastic new personal best and silver medal in the 100m Butterfly. Erin Tankard managed to improve on her new personal best from last month’s Yorkshires even more and finished 3^rdon the Podium over the 100m Butterfly. Sprinting to 3 silver medals and showing her versatility was Phoebe Cooper in the 50m Backstroke, Butterfly and Breaststroke.

As March Madness is a Level 3 event this allows JO3 swimmers the opportunity to compete without needing a qualifying time. Although it can be daunting to have your first meet in a long course pool, the mini Team Steel swimmers showed nerves of steel and swam without fear. Coach Wendy was extremely proud and pleased with how all the JO3 swimmers competed. With another great Team Steel competition coming to a close, Team Steel will be looking forward to the rest of the season, especially watching senior and junior elite competing at the British Trials in Glasgow in April.
